OUTLINING and EXAM WRITING WORKSHOP
Speakers will give helpful advice on how to outline for your first year classes. Receive some great tips on preparing for your exams! The presenters will be providing their personal tips on how to do well in the class as well as the exams. They are also mostly from the top 10% of the class and represent people from law review, moot court and law journal. A packet that will contain excerpts of most outlines and excerpts of most of the actual graded essay exam (with a cut sheet) of the presenter for the class they will be speaking on will be provided. This event is hosted by APALSA.
Please RSVP by Friday, October 5th at noon by email to southwestern.apalsa@gmail.com to be guaranteed a packet of sample outlines and exams.
FYI: The membership for APALSA is $20/year and $40 for a lifetime membership. It's not too late to join! The benefits of joining are getting access to our extensive outline bank, networking and socializing opportunities, and much more! You can fill out an application at the day of the event.

What becoming a mentor entails:
-Help your mentee become adjusted to his or her first year at law school. You may provide helpful tips, notes, books, etc.
-Show up to the Mentor/Mentee Luncheon on campus, tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, September 26th at noon.
-Best of all, make a new friend!
If you are interested in participating in the Mentor/Mentee program for this year, please fill out the Mentor/Mentee application and hand it to any of this year's APALSA officers. Elections for the 2007-2008 APALSA Board
The 2007-2008 APALSA Board Elections are quickly approaching! Eight offices are open for next year: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Social Chair, Academic Chair, Public Relations Chair, and Webmaster (can be combined with any of the aforementioned positions). Each of these offices provides a great opportunity to get involved and make a lasting impression
upon the Southwestern community.
Please complete the Statement of Intent to Run form (attaching additional pages as necessary) and return to the APALSA Mailbox in the SBA Office or email to haguinaldo@hotmail.com. PRESIDENT
Current: Hildy Aguinaldo (haguinaldo@hotmail.com)
Description: The President is responsible for overseeing and managing all APALSA-related affairs. The President acts as head of the Board, sits on the SBA President’s Council with leaders of all other student organizations, and is the main representative between APALSA and all other outside entities. He or she is charged with communicating regularly with Southwestern’s faculty, staff, and administrators, and to advocate to them on behalf of APALSA for the purpose of obtaining monetary and non-monetary resources and privileges.
VICE PRESIDENT
Current: Susan Chung (susan.s.chung@gmail.com)
Description: The Vice President is charged with assisting the President in carrying out the executive functions, and to act as President in his or her absence. The Vice President is also responsible for such community service projects as the New Village Charter School donation and drive.
SECRETARY
Current: Mai Tanaka (mtanaka@swlaw.edu)
Description: The Secretary is responsible for keeping and maintaining comprehensive records, including current membership and mailing lists, and disseminating information to members therefrom. He or she is also responsible for recording minutes at each Board meeting, and preparing these minutes for presentation and approval at the following meeting.
TREASURER
Current: Elizabeth Nguyen (enguyen@swlaw.edu)
Description: The Treasurer is responsible for the collection, disbursement, and accounting of all funds, including dues. This includes the oversight of all of APALSA’s expenditures and keeping accurate financial records of all accounts.
SOCIAL CHAIR
Current: Erin Isozaki (onespd32@hotmail.com)
Description: The Social Chair is charged with organizing social functions for APALSA members, between APALSA and other Southwestern student organizations, and among APALSA and other law student organizations. This may include co-sponsoring bar reviews with the SBA, holding the annual bar review with the Latino Law Student Association (LLSA), and planning the bar review with the Southern California Asian Pacific American Law Student Association (SCAPALSA). He or she is also responsible for organizing the Mentor-Mentee program, and the Mentor-Mentee Mixers to be held each semester.
ACADEMIC CHAIR
Current: Mary Trinh (mtrinh@swlaw.edu)
Description: The Academic Chair is responsible for planning and executing the Outline and Exam Writing Workshop during the fall semester and the Moot Court Workshop during the spring semester, which involve working with the Board, the faculty advisor, and guest speakers. He or she is also charged with augmenting and maintaining the outline bank and the TWEN website.
PUBLIC RELATIONS CHAIR
Current: Tammy Chu (tchu@swlaw.edu)
Description: The Public Relations Chair is the liaison between APALSA and all other entities, including the SBA, other student organizations, and minority bar associations. He or she is also responsible for encouraging and promoting student involvement in events and programs in which APALSA participates. This may include distributing announcements, reserving rooms, posting notices, and other tasks as may be necessary.
*WEBMASTER
Current: Elizabeth Nguyen (enguyen@swlaw.edu)
Description: The webmaster is charged with maintaining the internet accounts used by APALSA, including the blog, calendar, flickr account, and e-mail addresses.

APALSA would like to cordially invite you to the Annual Installation and Awards Banquet on Friday, April 20th, 2007. We will be honoring Professor Yokoyama with a Lifetime Achievement award, and will be hearing from Honorable Tomson Ong, this year’s keynote speaker. We will also be introducing to you the 2007-2008 APALSA Board. The event will be held at the Great Wall Chinese Restaurant. The reception will be held at 6:00 p.m., with the dinner and program to follow at 7:00 p.m.
The cost of the event will be $10 for APALSA Members and $15 for non-APALSA Members. This cost covers the cost of the food, which will include:

New Village Charter High School was recently authorized as a charter school by the Los Angeles Unified School District and will open in September 2006. The school, located just west of downtown Los Angeles, will serve up to 240 at-risk female students. New Village’s goal is to provide its students with a sense of belonging, inner confidence and every chance to succeed in adult life.
