Westlaw on Nov. 6th and 7th is hosting a session on how to do well on Southwestern Final Exams: Dos and Don'ts. It will be brief, but to the point. Every first year is recommended to attend, but it is also open to 2nd and 3rd years. If you want to know how to do well on final exams that are coming your way, make sure you don't miss this opportunity!

This week and next week, we will be selling pre-sale tickets for the food fair. The Food Fair will be on October 11th during lunch. The pre-sale is $7.00 per plate, which will have Korean BBQ from Chosun Galbi, which is a highly rated Korean BBQ restaurant in Los Angeles! Save a buck and pre-buy your tickets. FAL 6th Annual Spirit Awards
LOS ANGELES – Black Eyed Peas’ apl.de.ap will join Tia Carrere, Lou Diamond Phillips, Cheryl Burke, and many more popular entertainers in a star-studded affair to celebrate the Filipino American Library’s 6th Annual Spirit Awards and Dinner Benefit GALA on Saturday, October 14 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel (506 S. Grand Ave.) in downtown Los Angeles.
Allan Pineda Lindo, also known as “apl.de.ap,” will be honored with the Filipino American Library’s (FAL) Role Model Award. Tia Carrere, whose film credits include “True Lies” and “Wayne’s World,” will be performing, along with singers Stephanie Reese and III of a Kind. Special guests who are scheduled to attend include Lou Diamond Phillips (“La Bamba,” “Courage under Fire”), Cheryl Burke (ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars”), Tamlyn Tomita (“Joy Luck Club,” “Karate Kid II”), and Denise Dador (ABC7’s “Eyewitness News”).
The GALA honorees also include John Chiang (Chair, State Board of Equalization), ABS-CBN Global, Filipino American Service Group, Inc. (“FASGI”), and Washington Mutual.
FAL’s annual Silent Auction will take place that evening, offering guests the chance to bid on more than $10,000 worth of items that include original paintings, jewelry by Filipino artists, mp3 players, and movie collections. A new tradition will also commence, as FAL proudly presents its 1st annual Ballroom Dance Exhibition.
This year’s GALA commemorates the centennial of Filipino migration to the United States. Among the many generous sponsors of the GALA are Burger King (Platinum), Sony Pictures Entertainment (Gold), Washington Mutual (Gold), as well as Corporate Sponsors (Kevin Acebo, Mona Pasquil, Steve Westly, and Verizon) and Silver Sponsors (Dichoso & Company and Union Bank of California).

Slanted Screen Screening
THE SLANTED SCREEN: ASIAN MEN IN FILM & TELEVISION
RECEPTION, SCREENING AND PANEL DISCUSSION
Please join us for an exclusive screening of “The Slanted Screen: Asian Men in Film & Television,” a new documentary film (www.slantedscreen.com) written, directed and produced by Jeff Adachi, a Japanese-American attorney who is the elected Public Defender in San Francisco and a former president of the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area.
The film, which won “best documentary” at the NY International Independent Film & Video Festival, covers nearly 100 years of cinematic history, and includes interviews with actors James Shigeta, Mako, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Dustin Nguyen and comedian Bobby Lee.
A panel discussion entitled Influencing the Image-Makers will immediately follow the screening. Industry executives, including Screen Actors Guild President Allen Rosenberg and Chemin Bernard, President of Casting Society of America, will discuss strategies to increase diversity in film and television. The program will also include a special tribute to the late actor Mako, who is featured in the film.
